Frequently
asked
questions
What is reclaimed wood, and why is it a good choice?
Reclaimed wood is salvaged from old buildings, bridges, and industrial sites, then repurposed for new projects. It’s an eco-friendly choice that reduces deforestation while offering durability and unique character that new wood often lacks.
Where does Kitaru source its reclaimed wood?
We carefully source our reclaimed Bangkirai, Meranti, Kapur, and Teak from old structures across Southeast Asia. Each piece is inspected and prepared to ensure quality and longevity.
How does reclaimed wood compare to new lumber in terms of strength and durability?
Reclaimed wood is often denser and stronger than new lumber due to its age and exposure to the elements. It has already undergone years of natural seasoning, making it more stable and resistant to warping.
What are the characteristics of Bangkirai, Meranti, Kapur, and Teak?
Bangkirai is extremely tough and weather-resistant, making it ideal for outdoor decking. Meranti is a versatile hardwood used in furniture and interior paneling due to its fine grain. Kapur has natural durability and is often used for flooring and structural applications. Teak is highly resistant to moisture and pests, making it perfect for both indoor and outdoor use.
Which type of reclaimed wood is best for outdoor use?
Bangkirai and Teak are excellent choices for outdoor applications due to their natural resistance to weather, moisture, and pests.
Can reclaimed wood be used for flooring, decking, or furniture?
